Found this hidden treasure 10 mins from home! I've been working mostly in the Tampa Bay area for the past 5ish years & haven't payed much attention to what's been going on here in Spring Hill. Found this gem hiding right under my nose! It easily rivals any fine dining establishment in Tampa! It's small & quaint but don't let that fool you, every dish is made to order from scratch! Being 1st generation in the states of Scottish & British descent, from appetizer to entre, I was over whelmed with emotions, not having such an amazing meal since my youth. You may have to be patient, waiting for your meal since the owner prepares & cooks all the meals herself...trust me, every bite is very worth the wait! If you get the chance to speak with Miss Catherine, that too will be a treat! I didn't realize how much I've miss a Scottish accent!

Having been surrounded by Scottish in-laws for the past 14 years, I have developed quite a palate for Scottish foods. The Tartan Table offers comfort Scottish foods that will blow your kilt off. This family-owned and operated restaurant serves home-cooked Scottish meals in the heart of Spring Hill that will make you feel right at home. The decor is charming and each of the tables are adorned with different tartans. Upon your first visit, a kilt-wearing server will name them all for you. The musts on the menu include their famous Scotch eggs and sausage rolls. If you are new to Scottish foods, such as haggis or stovies, share a few dishes among friends to sample a bit of everything, but be sure to save room for dessert. I chose not to share during my first visit and I enjoyed every bite of my chicken and leek pot pie. New specials are offered daily. A kids menu is available which includes fish and chips, burger or mac & cheese.

I have now eaten at this fine establishment twice. Both times I was very happy with the service and quality of food. My fiance and I are vegetarian and lucky for us they have one of the best vegetarian black bean burgers we have ever tasted. We often call in a pick up order for these delicious burgers. This is one of Spring Hill's best kept secrets.

It may have been a bit of a drive, but it really was worth it. I decided to go to The Tartan Table because a friend recommended it to me. She'd seen it in the Tampa Tribune. I'm glad I took her cue as the moment I walked into the (outside) Non-descript shopping center, I was really happy. The place is small 9-10 tables at most, it's decorated in a lovely fashion, with kilts and other Scottish paraphanelia. It feels comfortable and homey and smells divine. I'm not sure that the staff was expecting a busy Sunday, as there was one person waiting tables and one person cooking, so that made things a bit slow (hence 4 stars), but everything was worth waiting for. We were served fresh made bread with real butter and our food was made to order, this is part of the reason for the wait. Nothing is pre-packaged or frozen. It's all made RIGHT THEN, so there's going to be some waiting. When it was delivered to our table, my stomach literally growled. I ordered the Shepard's Pie and the Husbeast ordered the Angus Burger. Each of us was satisfied with our meal. The Shepard's pie was absolutely scrumptious. The brown gravy that the meat was cooked in was rich and tasty. The Angus burger was cooked to perfection, but was lacking the bacon that the husband ordered. All in all a small issue. The service, for it being one waitress was attentive. I felt sorry for the girl as she had to juggle everyone, but she handled it nobly. She was running her butt off! This is a place that I am sure I will return to in the future. I really am looking forward to trying the Scotch Eggs, and having my husband try the haggis! This is my 300th review!

What a gem! This little ten table restaurant is on Deltona just north of Timber Pines. The Tartan Table has been here about a year and this may be the restaurant that finds its niche in this less than desirable location. It is open for dinner only, except on Sunday when it is open for lunch (one suggestion would be to change the sign out front which says open for lunch and dinner as it is misleading during the week). Lovely atmosphere with richly colored walls decorated with Scottish scenes and authentic kilts. Linen on the tables and more upscale china add to the ambience. And if you want tea, the have the teapots to prepare a proper pot. A small selection of wine is available but I didn't get a chance to see what is sold. The menu has a number of traditional dishes - any of my Canadian, Irish, British, or Scottish friends would feel at home. Elizabeth, the owner, prepares food from scratch. The feeling is very European ... Relaxed, courses arriving timely but at a leisurely pace, not the usual rush you find in many chain restaurants. The food was flavorful, portions were generous, and prices were reasonable for the quality of food and type of restaurant. The Shepherd's Pie had a rich gravy and the mashed potatoes were a delight. Served with fresh bread and butter, and accompanied by a fine dinner salad, we enjoyed every bite. We saved room to share a slice of carrot cake and it met our high expectations for moistness, flavor and icing. The wait staff was impeccable. It is apparent the waiter and waitress working tonight had served in fine dining establishments. Thank you for an enjoyable evening. This is a place that deserves to be discovered and I'm willing to take a chance that during my next visit I'll be waiting for a table!

Great food and friendly service. It was a great experience but a little long for the kids. Mine can handle it but if yours can't then just be warned of the long dining experience. Food was wonderful and we are going back again soon.

Concerning the two one-star reviews: it is so sad to read a review that is obviously a plant, probably from a competing restaurant. Not only was it blatantly incorrect (for example, the chips are NOT frozen, and the water is standard spring hill water like every other place in town), but the tone of the review, and the content, even similar grammatical errors, demonstrate that this was a clumsy attempt at a torpedo-job, and not a valid representation of the restaurant. And on top of this, did you notice that both of these reviews were the first reviews by these reviewers? So far, EVERY review on yelp for this restaurant has been four or five star, except for these two very suspicious ones. So sad - this restaurant does not deserve this. And, by the way, it is not fast food. It is food prepared by a little Scottish grandmother FROM SCRATCH. Of course it takes a little longer to prepare. Just like in Europe, this restaurant is designed around leisurely, authentic, chef-prepared cuisine. If you want fast food, go to Burger King. And, by the way, they don't have a plastic dish in the whole place - it's all china and flatware.

I think the food was over priced, service was slow and we were the only two people in the place. The price on the menu and the price they charged was different, I pointed it out and it took them 15 minutes to figure out how to fix the problem. $13.99 for a shepherds pie and a child's portion was $6.50, but when the bill came it was $7.99. The cup of soup once again said $3.00 and when the bill came there was an extra .50 and the portion was very small even in cup standards. The salad was lost in the huge plate that it was served in and at that very small in itself. The food was actually good and I mean very good, the soup a Cream of Lentil was very tasty with a nice warm bread, would be a nice start. I give the place three stars solely on the food flavoring, the ingredients tasted fresh our server tried very hard to keep us happy and the food was timed well, he never brought something without clearing the prior plates, which I thought was good and he kept our drinks fresh, even though they only had two different soft drinks when we went in, diet Coke and Sprite. He did his best to make sure we would come back, but for the price I would only go once and a while. As they get better and get their pricing down on what they are going to charge, I think this place will be around for a while.

I'm impressed with this place! Everything is fresh and made from scratch. It was my first time in this Scottish restaurant and it certainly won't be my last. I came with family and we ordered different dishes so we could sample a few off the menu. I had the Special of the Day: "Stovies," a peasant's meal that consisted of potatoes, beef, some vegetables, and a nice brown gravy; delicious and filling. For dessert, I ordered the Spotted Dick. I could tell the sauce was freshly made and so was the pastry. Speaking of, the bread was also freshly made. Do you see a recurring theme here? Fresh is the word to describe this restaurant. The other dishes I sampled were Sausage Roll (appetizer), Fish n' Chips (again, freshly battered), Shepherd's Pie, and Rhubard Fool (dessert), all of which were excellent. It's nice to know that the desserts were not too sweet. The place would be considered a "Mom and Pop" restaurant, run by a real Scottish cook. The place is small so be prepared if you go during the busiest part of the week (Fri/Sat). The decor was lovely, and there is a picture that teaches you some of the Scottish Lingo. Overall, you won't be disappointed. If you want true, authentic Scottish Food, this restaurant definitely nailed it.

Probably the best meal we have had this winter. The Lamb shank was done perfectly and the Shepard's pie was excellent. Got in early, and the service was great. We'll be back again soon.

First we'll start with the good stuff. The food is absolutely 5-star. Fresh ingredients, well prepared. And their "specials" outnumber their "regular" menu items by 2-1, so you can enjoy something new every visit. Service is okay. I suspect the two young men are somewhat new to the restaurant, Scottish kilts, and the varied menu. But they tried hard, and I'd give them a 3. They could improve with things like refreshing the bread when gone, refilling water, bring the bill more quickly .. the little things. Now the down side. Yes, little olde gramma may be doing the cooking (I didn't check the kitchen to see if that was true), but she is TOTALLY overloaded. If you arrive as they hit their peak hours (after 6pm), be prepared to wait for your entree from 1-2 HOURS!! I would suggest that you get to the restaurant at 5pm, so that your order is into the kitchen early. Perhaps they are waiting for the restaurant to get "more established" before hiring more help in the kitchen, but this problem could turn their customers away. I hope they get Gramma some help, as the food is fantastic. Overall, 5 for the food, 3 for the service, and 1 for the LONG wait.

I've been here over an hour and do not yet have my entree. It could be because it took them 30 minutes to take my order. Also they managed to get us glasses of wine after about twenty minutes, but then we had to ask for refills when our glasses were clearly empty. Don't go here if you expect to do anything else in the evening. On a positive note the bread and soup were good.

A must for anyone that loves freshly made food and a great atmosphere! The menu is outstanding! We suggest the Sheppard's Pie and Sausage Rolls. You won't be disappointed! The owner is a lovely woman who brings a taste of Scotland to Spring Hill. An intimate restaurant with a menu that will make you come back for more! Visit The Tartan Table on Deltona and support a local "Gem."

If you have been thinking about trying this little gem, or are hesitating because of what you think Scottish food might be like, you have to go!! The food is absolutely outstanding. Everything is homemade, and the owner/chef, Elizabeth, takes great pride in what she's preparing there. We are in from out of town, and wanting something unique, we settled on The Tartan Table. The restaurant is cozy and beautifully decorated, and had gorgeous Christmas decor up when we were there. Everything is homemade from scratch (we had the opportunity to talk with the owner/chef Elizabeth as we were the last table there-she's delightful). We had the soup (amazing), the Chicken & Leek pie (best I've had), Shepherd's Pie (delicious) and a stuffed pork special (incredible). It's true - there is a wait for the food, but I will always wait for delicious food, freshly made from scratch over some reheated chain restaurant grub. The service was attentive and friendly and they were extra kind to my young daughter. The desserts were delicious, and I had an iced tea, which was brewed perfectly. If we are ever back on the area, we will be coming again!

WTF were the people who gave this 5 stars thinking. First off only one server and restaurant was sort of busy . We waited 10 minutes just to be seated. Then another 20 just to get some foul tasting water. Took her another 15 just to take our order. Finally the starter came 45 minutes later. The sausage rolls were ok. Then another30 minute to get our food . I had the fish and chips and the only reason I ate it is because I was f***Ing starved. No flavor on the fish and the fries were store brought.you would think a Scottish place would use fresh potatoes. The server made an excuse for the food saying the cook was all by herself. Boo boo . Then to top off the crappy experience the mints on the way out were actually stale holy crap I couldn't believe it. Sorry one star is all this place deserves. Never again

We were so looking forward to trying a new Scottish restaurant. However, it seems we failed to recognize a bad omen before we even sat down. It was 6:30 on a Saturday and our server Brian told us they were out of fish and chips, almost out of soup, and had only one order of haggis left. He wasn't very familiar with what was on the menu. Actually, we were told that the menus we were given weren't the dinner menus and many dishes listed were not available. He said they hadn't yet received the correct menus. (another omen?) After much discussion to figure out what we could order we settled for what we could. My scotch egg was tasty, but quite overcooked. We thought the sausage roll was surprisingly bland. The lentil soup they served us had few enough lentils that you could count the lentils. The flavor was just so-so and it was barely warm. My shepherds pie was tasty but had a reddish sauce instead of brown, and we could all recognize instant the potatoes. Meanwhile water glasses went empty, and extra bread and circle k butter never did come. Things got worse when 4 of us were server together, the other two had to wait. When their two dishes came out, one was wrong. The patriarch of out family had made sure he ordered the "last haggis dish" yet Brian brought him bangers and mash. Once Brian was made aware, he took the bangers and mash away and left "Dad" with an empty space while the rest of us ate out barely warm food. Even sadder when our matriarch mentioned that her sausage tasted funny. After 4 of us tasted her sausage and all agreed that not only the taste was off, the texture was almost gluey and quite offensive, she gave up and sent her dish back and went hungry. Still waiting for the final dish, we noticed our young "date" not enjoying her seafood dish. After 3 of us tasted it, we found zero flavor in the sauce and I think I now have had my first taste of skate instead of the listed scallops, we left most of it on the table. Finally another server brought us water. Something is amiss in Glasgow when haggis gets the only vote of approval, unless "Dad" was only trying to lighten all of our disappointment. I can only guess that the 2nd string crew was in charge this night as it seemed they had no clue of quality or service, and it surely seemed they didn't care much. Oh well, back to our usual Scottish eatery.

We found this place while riding around looking for a place in Spring Hill. We're both Scots so this place sounded interesting. It's located with another establishment and from the outside doesn't look like much but once you open the door and see the white table cloths with tartan runners, it becomes outstanding. We were quickly greeted and given a choice of tables and informed a few things on the menu weren't available. We liked this, as other places wait until you make a selection to say they don't have it. There were many fresh meals on the menu to choose from. We chose sausage rolls and seafood pie, shepherds pie and beef veg soup. Each dish had a wonderful taste. Our server Brian was attentive but not intrusive and all dishes came out hot and together. It was a slow night with a max of 4 tables occupied at a time so the single server was able to keep up with everyone. He also remembered a couple that came in as well as what they had ordered last time. We will be back many more times and recommend it to others
